Guardians of the Galaxy Halloween Overlay: “Monsters After Dark”

If you’re visiting Disneyland during Halloween and love the Guardians of the Galaxy, you’ve got two rides to choose from: Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout and its seasonal Halloween version, Monsters After Dark. Both deliver thrilling action, but there are key differences to know before you ride.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout

This is the standard version of the ride, available during regular park hours. It’s a reimagined Tower of Terror featuring the Guardians storyline.

  • Ride Experience: Help Rocket Raccoon free the rest of the Guardians from the Collector’s fortress. The ride is a drop tower, with sudden plunges and Rocket’s fast-paced commentary.

  • Height Requirement: 40 inches minimum.

  • Notes: The ride is intense with flashing lights and action-packed scenes. While not scary in a horror sense, it may be intimidating for younger or sensitive riders.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Monsters After Dark

This Halloween overlay runs in the late afternoon and evening during the Halloween season and is also featured during Oogie Boogie Bash. Typically, the ride closes around 2 PM and reopens as Monsters After Dark at 3 PM.

  • Ride Experience: Rocket must rescue Baby Groot, who was left behind during the original ride. The mechanics are the same as Mission Breakout, but the atmosphere is darker, with Halloween-themed elements and a spooky vibe.

  • Who It’s For: Great for fans who enjoy spooky thrills alongside the original ride’s excitement. Not ideal for those easily scared or uncomfortable with Halloween themes.

Which One Should You Ride?

  • Mission Breakout: Perfect for adrenaline seekers and Guardians fans who want the classic high-energy experience. Not recommended for young children.

  • Monsters After Dark: Adds a Halloween twist to the ride, giving a spooky spin on the classic adventure. Ideal for those looking for a seasonal scare.

Whether you ride the Guardians during the day or take on the Halloween-themed Monsters After Dark in the evening, both offer a memorable experience at Disneyland. Keep height requirements, action scenes, and flashing lights in mind, and you’re in for an unforgettable adventure!
